Speak My Talk quick-start guide
A free app that learns one person’s own way of saying words. You say a word, and the app shows it in big letters and says it out loud. Everything stays on the phone.
1. Train words
You, or someone helping you, can train words.
- On Home, tap Train words.
- Type your own word or phrase in the box at the top. Any language or script works (for example पानी, ماء). Press Next. Or pick a common word like “water” below it.
- Press Record. Say the word once, the way you usually say it.
- Listen. Press Keep if it is good, or Redo.
- Do this 4 times (“Example 1 of 4” … “4 of 4”).
2. Manage words
- The word list is in Train, below the common words.
- + Add examples records more of a word. The play button plays one. The ✕ button removes a bad one.
- Delete word removes a word (it asks first).
A whole phrase like “I need the toilet” can be one item. This is often the most reliable.
3. Use it
- Tap Use, then the big Speak button.
- Say one word you trained. Then stop talking.
- The word shows in big letters and is said out loud.
- Several words: turn on Sentence mode. Leave a short pause between words.
4. Fix mistakes
- Wrong word? Tap the right word below it. The app saves it and gets better.
- “Not sure”? Say it again, or tap the right word.
- Sentence mode: tap any word to fix it. Show what I heard shows which parts it heard.
Help on every screen
Tap How to use on any screen. Tap Read aloud to hear the steps.
For helpers and speech therapists
- Record examples in the place and at the speed the person really talks. 4 to 5 good examples per word beats many poor ones.
- Settings: speaking speed, strictness, pause length, stop automatically or tap to finish, backup and restore, delete all data, and the welcome tour.
- Save backup file often and keep it private. It contains voice recordings. Load it on a new phone to move all words.
- Works in any language: it compares sounds, so words can be typed in any language or script.
